Joseph's Storehouse has been serving the needy of

DeKalb and Greater Atlanta for decades.

We are now partnering with them to further expand their reach.

Please contact Joseph's Storehouse at the link below.

MISSION STATEMENT

Joseph’s Storehouse operates on the fundamental principle that there are no shortages in the world, merely misalignment's between the abundance and the needs.  We share this philosophy with our partners and contributors in business, charitable networks and social service agencies.  Thus the job of aligning the needs of people with the overabundance which exists, and in many cases goes to waste, is the task to which Joseph’s Storehouse commits itself.

STRATEGIC OVERVIEW

In simple terms, Joseph’s Storehouse locates stocks of surplus food, clothing and other commodities, which would normally be discarded, and distributes them needy people.  In so doing, Joseph’s Storehouse accomplishes the following objectives:

  • It provides an avenue for business to donate their excess foods and other goods to needy people, generating community goodwill for these businesses as well as the economic benefits of charitable donations and reduced cost of disposing of their excess commodities.

  • It consolidates under one roof the efforts of many social service agencies in Metro Atlanta and the outlying area to contact businesses and private donors, soliciting their corporate and individual charity.

  • It provides a single point of supply through the establishment of a communications and distribution network from Joseph’s Storehouse to the social service agencies who serve our area’s needy individuals.

  • It continually maintains and seeks to expand its sources of supply as well it avenues of distribution, by staying in constant communication with its donors and agencies it serves, identifying and contacting new business and private contributors, and networking with other agencies who also serve the needy in our area.

  • It creates through its daily administration and operations a source of continuing employment and job training for its volunteer workforce, serving its network of donor businesses by responding to their requests for competent employment applicants from this workforce. It provides and organization which can expand to provide other human services such as housing assistance, adult literacy and continue education, child care, health screening, and many other needs.

In the era of dwindling government involvement and diminishing of the capabilities of the other traditional caregivers, Joseph’s Storehouse provides a model for ministries and other service providers.  Joseph’s Storehouse provide that “bridge” between the sources of abundance and the points of need by helping businesses distribute their surplus, excess, and overage directly to the needy, and by providing no-cost value-added services to its donor businesses and the community.

LOGISTICAL OVERVIEW

The logistical effort required to accomplish the above objectives is handled through the volunteer workforce.  Reporting to the Board of Directors and functional heads of Community Alert Inc. volunteer workers handle all of Joseph’s Storehouse’s organizational and administrative needs, including:

  • Budgeting, accounting and financial reporting.

  • Transportation of food and other commodities from donor locations to the Storehouse, and to points of need.

  • Warehousing and inventory of food and other commodities.

  • Communications with existing and potential donor businesses and individuals, social service agencies, other churches, governmental agencies, and the press.

  • Recruiting and training of Storehouse workforce.

  • Scheduling and supervision of workforce, maintenance of physical facilities, tracking and reporting.

METHOD OF OPERATION

As donors of food and other commodities are identified, Joseph’s Storehouse arranges with the donor convenient times for Storehouse workers to pick up donations.  The donations are transported to Joseph’s Storehouse in its own vehicle, where they are sorted, inventoried, and stored appropriately pending distribution to the network of other agencies, and directly to needy families.

Canned and frozen foods and other non-perishable items are stored and distributed to the network on a regular schedule.fresh foods and perishables are distributed immediately by contacting all networking agencies in a coordinated distribution effort.  Advance notice of perishables donations is extremely important to ensure all commodities are distributed to the needy while they are still useful.

Commodities such as clothing, diapers, house-wares and other necessities are inventoried and distributed to the needy on an availability basis.

Staff personnel are on duty at Joseph’s Storehouse during business hours. There is an emergency phone number for after hours contact. Immediate aid packages containing food for a family four are readily available.
