Get to know Pat
Patricia Carter Coppin, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee spent her formative years in the Alton Park community. She attended Frank H. Trotter Elementary School and the historic Howard High School. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Knoxville College, Patricia went on to earn her Masters of Arts Degree in Gerontology Administration from Fisk University.
Over the past 35 years, Patricia has worked tirelessly in her chosen profession, which has resulted in a career filled with extra-ordinary successes and accomplishments. Amongst her many awards are proclamations from both the Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia and the Fulton Board of Commissioners proclaiming a day in her honor. The recipient of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter of National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Bold and Fearless Advocacy Award for community contribution for Nutritional Education and Obesity Prevention. Patricia also received the Mayor's Point of Light Award. In 1994 Patricia founded Community Alert Inc., a non-profit geriatric and family resource center. For more than 20 years, Patricia has and continues to serve as program director.
Patricia is an active member of numerous religious, civic and social organizations; co leader (with her husband Samuel Coppin) of the Super Saints senior ministry at Spirit & Truth Sanctuary in Decatur, Georgia, Leading Age Georgia, where she serves on the Georgia Institute on Aging Board of Directors and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. On a personal note, Patricia's passion centers around History and Heritage. She enjoys using past historical facts as primary tools to teach us to thrive and prosper in the future.
Get to know Sam
Upon graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in Business Management, Samuel W. Coppin had a brief career with the New York Jets and then entered the oil industry working his way up to Divisional Operations manager, shortly after, Sam spent 23 years in the dental industry contributing to both the manufacturing and the distribution arenas where he soon became the first minority Vice President in the Dental industry. Sam became actively involved in Community Alert Inc. in 1998, where he has experienced many life changing ventures. He has a fondness for working with and serving seniors and realizes that it has been the most rewarding part of his career since becoming a vital part of Community Alert Inc. Sam is the recipient of Young Business man of the Year award given by the Harlem YMCA, and An Appreciation Award by the National Dental Association. Sam is also a founding member of E.D.G.E.S., and has also received the Bright Light Award given by the National Black Caucus.
